Building and history

Island Packet 45 is a polyester cutter built in 1999 by Island Packet Yachts, USA, according to the design of Robert K. Johnson.
In 1996, the Island Packet 45 replaced the 44 becoming Island Packet's Flagship yacht. She continued IP's cruising philosophy but with much more tankage and a large, dedicated navigation station. On launch, she had the longest waterline of the fleet and a good turn of speed combined with stability in strong conditions.
She represents a very good example of the rugged, safe and quality hulled vessels that are not produced by the production shipyards today and will endure over the owner’s investment.
The Island Packet 45 offers exceptional safety and seakeeping, unmatched comfort and liveability, superb craftsmanship and materials, and good performance. The exclusive Full Foil Keel unifies the performance of modern hull and foil designs with the superior seakeeping, comfort and safety of a traditional long keel.
The Hull is fibreglass reinforced plastic (FRP) , hand laid up, using unidirectional fabrics with resin and stiffened with glassed in bulkheads, structural members, joinery flanges and fittings. The deck structure is a single unit and is moulded using layers of biaxial and triaxial ”E” glass and mat in a “Polycore” construction. They don’t make boats in this quality today.
The superstructure is fitted with (6) hatches, and (16) opening portholes with a moulded non- skid surface in the weather deck traffic areas. This vessel is of a full keel design with internal encapsulated ballast. The Full Foil Keel unifies the performance of modern hull and foil designs with the superior seakeeping, comfort and safety of a traditional long keel.
All necessary control lines (including 2 boom preventers) are led aft to allow sail handling from the comfort and security of the cockpit.
The keel stepped, double spreader rig provides superior mast support and stability.
Clean – Well laid out, well-lit interior –Leatherette seating areas, Numerous opening portholes and hatches, new sole flooring.
The yacht is well maintained by the owner, maintenance booklet and logs available. The navigation and communication systems are up to date.
